What We Believe

Our Mission

The Lytle Methodist Church is firmly grounded in the Wesleyan tradition expressed by John Wesley, a tradition that combines conservative evangelical teachings with a strong call to Christian service and action.

The teaching of our church is based squarely on the Bible and the great historic creeds of the church, including the Apostle's Creed. We believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and that we are saved wholly and completely by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We also believe that once we have been saved, Jesus calls us on a journey toward wholeness and holiness - a journey, empowered by the Holy Spirit, that leads to inner changes and outward action.

Like John Wesley, who preached the gospel to coal miners one day and took food to jail prisoners the next, we believe true Christian faith invariably leads to both evangelism and mission work. Therefore we believe the mission of our church is to be involved on a daily basis with making disciples by preaching and teaching the good news and to be involved on a daily basis with loving our neighbors by feeding the hungry and sheltering the poor.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”

— Matthew 28.19

The Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and was buried.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,
the holy universal Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
